Design & Build Quality
A big reason why people enjoy the Uwell Caliburn so much is its style. It’s sleek and simple and is comfortable to hold and use. The dimensions of the Caliburn measure in at 110mm x 21mm by 12mm. It’s a slim and tall device, therefore hanging onto its bottom and smoking on it is really pleasant and natural. It can be tucked into your pants pockets , or a shirt pocket and you don’t even know it’s there.
“CALIBURN” is printed on the side of the device “UWELL” can be found on the reverse. There are two raised lines at each ‘corner’ on the Caliburn which run from top to bottom. These lines are in line with the lines on the pod, giving the Caliburn a bit of sleek design. This certainly helps make the Caliburn look more attractive than if it was just plain.
The Caliburn is made of aluminum-alloy and , as a result, it’s extremely light. It’s still extremely sturdy and long-lasting, however. Because the device is almost completely smooth, I’ve dropped it from a height of standing several times over concrete and hardwood floors. Other than small scratches and dings, it’s functioning and looking great.
Caliburn comes in six different shades. Five of them are solid colors and one of them fades from pink to blue. The black paint on my review model has held up nicely apart from some minor scratches and dings from dropping it. It’s not easy to scratch or chip easily. It also scratch or peel off as easily. But, the bottom areas of my Caliburn are splattered with paint off from being stood up on a variety of surfaces.
You can choose to either hit the power/fire button vape or just draw your mouthpiece. The Caliburn is equipped with fire activated by button and drawing. This means you can use whichever you prefer. Fire button very well made and requires some pressure to trigger. It doesn’t move or shake in any way.
Just below the power/fire button is an LED indicator. This lights up green, blue, or red to indicate the level of the battery. The LED will turn on when you draw or hit”play.
On either side of the device is an opening that is cut out for the ejuice-viewing window that is on the pod. When the pod is placed in, the window sits in the cutout and allows you to check your ejuice level without having to remove it. The window is transparent so it’s very convenient and easy to look through.
Standard Caliburn pods connect magnetically and then click into their place. You must push down with a lot of force to get that pod’s click to the. After the pod has clicked into its place, it’s an exact fitting with no movement or wiggle. It is also possible to use Caliburn Koko pods along with the Caliburn, however these do not click into the battery like the standard Caliburn pods. Caliburn Koko pods connect only using magnets. It’s still a wiggle free fitting and I’ve noticed that they stay attached as well as regular Caliburn pods.
Pod
Caliburn pods hold up to 2ml of liquid. There are two identical pods in the box that have integrated 1.4ohm coils. They can be changed, so you don’t have to switch the coils. Once the pods are used/burned out, you will need to replace the entire pod. This is a great option for those who want a straightforward device that they refill and then begin using.
It is also possible to utilize Caliburn Koko pods with the Caliburn. The pods are 1.2ohm and feature red bases (the base of traditional Caliburn pods are black).
Airflow is introduced into the pod via tiny airflow holes located on the sides of the Caliburn. The airflow is then directed through a hole at top of pod.
The mouthpiece on the pod is sloped in on both sides and can be a comfortable place to vape. The mouthpiece of the pod also serves as its fill cap. You need to remove the cap off to open the ports for filling but it’s not easy to take out of the cap. The wiggle from cap side to side is helpful, but it’s not easy to remove.
Once you’ve taken the cap off, you’ll notice three holes. The middle hole is not filled with liquid, so do not fill it with ejuice or you’ll inundate the coil! It is possible to fill the pod using one or both of the outer holes. If you fill it through one hole, the other hole allows air to escape and make filling the pod simpler.
Even with the air release hole, it is necessary to fill the pods slowly. Because the coil is in the middle of the pod, ejuice isn’t evenly distributed unless that you turn the point of the pod. Tilting the pod will get the ejuice flowing to the opposite side. If you fill it too fast the ejuice will fill only the portion of the hole you’ve selected and exit through the hole. When you’re finished filling, the mouthpiece or cap pressure is re-fitted to the pod.
Battery and Charging
The Caliburn is powered by a 520mAh battery. When fully recharged, the battery lasts for quite some time vaping. It’s only 11W in power so it only requires a small amount of battery for each draw. On average , I’ve seen approximately 3 refills per battery.
The LED that lies beneath the power button indicates the level of battery charge. There are three colors:
Green: 100-60%
Blue: 60-30%
Red: Under 30 percent
The fire button to test your battery’s condition or, if you puff with draw, it will turn on the LED.
Charging is quick even considering that the Caliburn utilizes micro-USB charging. It takes only 45 minutes for it to be completely dead until fully charged. It also has pass-thru charging so it can be used to vape while it charges.
Performance
The Caliburn is a sturdy vape. The included pods as well as the Caliburn Koko pods provide the same draw, it’s a loose, but not airy MTL draw. If you prefer a tight MTL draw, this may not be the device for you.
The standard 1.4ohm Caliburn pods deliver a nice throat hit with a 50mg sodium nic salt. The vapor is warm, not too hot, which is really enjoyable. The flavor is great and lives up to all the hype out in the market. The vapor production is greater than you’d expect for devices with 11W.
Caliburn Koko pods deliver a very similar experience to the normal pods. But since they’re 1.2ohm pods, the vapor is slightly warmer. It’s still not hot, but it’s noticeably warmer than the standard pod. Cloud production and flavor are also excellent and pleasing.
To draw very warm, take the Caliburn Koko pods, for simply a warm draw, you can use normal pods.
The production of vapor, flavor, and warmth all start to diminish as the battery dies. The Caliburn isn’t a continuously output device, so it’s normal to see this. Once the battery is red, it’s much less of a draw. Therefore, I decided to charge it when it got to this level.
None of the pods emitted any leaks or gave me any issues in my tests. I used mostly 50/50 nic salts however I did try one 60VG ejuice. I frequently took long draws and chain smoked and never experienced a dry hit or even close. Wicking the pods really good and a non-issue.
I’ve used each pod around a week, and through multiple refills a day, they’re going well. The pod life is definitely one of the advantages for this product.
Verdict
The Caliburn isn’t without flaws, but there are a few areas where it could be improved, however it’s generally a great vape. If you’re looking to get a strong MTL draw then you’ll want to think about a different option. For a more easy MTL draw, you’ll be satisfied using the Caliburn.
For beginners, the Caliburn is a great choice because of the ease of use while experienced vapers will still be awed by the flavor and long battery life that the Caliburn has to offer. If you’re looking for a nicotine salt vape, the Caliburn is definitely one of the top devices you can get, even today.
The Caliburn is made well, the pods last a long time and the taste is on point. I can easily still recommend the Caliburn with the latest choices available.
